Distinctive/Artistic /Cross-disciplinary
Balance – achieving both professional and personal goals as I firmly believe that they go hand in hand. I am grateful to be surrounded by a strong support system whilst trying to see where my work can take me. The dream one day to have a lifestyle brand encompassing all my various interests ranging from fashion to ceramics, interiors, photography, travel… List goes on!
I would say that I myself am someone starting out in my field as I only graduated from Parsons a year ago - so I don’t know how qualified I am to answer this. One thing I can say is that if you are graduating and hesitating about whether to start a label or joining a company, think about your product and the place it can have in the existing industry. If you feel you have a unique voice and a signature style, it is worth exploring creating a brand of your own. If not, I feel it is best to find a design house you really admire and respect – then make your way up there!
Fashion: I have been interested in summer layering – layering is always something brought up in fall or winter but the more I explore transparency in fabric and lighter clothes, I find it interesting to see what can be done with those in a summer context. Fitness: I am not really a fitness pro, anyone who knows me will find it funny that I am even answering this! But one thing I do think really helped me was to drink 12 glasses of lemon water a day + working out or walking an hour + not eating any food past 6pm. But again this only works for short amounts of time… especially the no dinner rule, I love food too much! Interiors: I am loving raw wooden furniture with unfinished surfaces and smoky mirrors.
The textiles – they are the heart of the brand. The artistic flair that is present in every piece is what I will make sure never gets diluted. I think the more you produce the less you can survey what happens and the more things you let slip by, but I sincerely hope I am able to maintain this very level of involvement and care throughout.
