DIFC Hosts Inaugural Football Tournament To Mark UAE National Sports Day



  • 32 teams from across the district will compete in a series of friendly matches
  • DIFC are committed to promoting a healthy lifestyle for community of over 21,000 professionals
  • Event will take place this evening from 6:00pm to 11:30pm at the Kora Dome, Al Wasl Club.

Dubai-UAE: 16 February 2017 – In line with the UAE National Sports Day initiative, Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the leading financial hub in the $7.4 trillion Middle East, Africa and South Asia (MEASA) region, hosted the inaugural DIFC Football Tournament, bringing together 32 teams from across the district to compete in a series of friendly matches that promote sportsmanship and a healthier lifestyle.

The National Sports Day is an initiative of His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, Ruler of Dubai and President of the National Olympic Committee (NOC) and showcases the cohesion of community segments, reflecting harmony and positive interaction among cultures across the nation.

Organised under the slogan 'UAE Unites Us', UAE National Sports Day involves not just sport but recreational, promotional, communal, educational and competitive activities to help create a positive interaction among multi cultures living peacefully and happily in the UAE.

Speaking about the occasion, Raja Al Mazrouei, Senior Vice President – Marketing & Corporate Communications, DIFC Authority said: “UAE National Sports Day is not only an opportunity to encourage our community to be more active, but to promote the importance of health and wellbeing for the 21,000 professionals who are working in the Centre. We are continuing to diversify DIFC as not just a world-class financial hub, but a leading destination where people can advance their businesses, engage with the financial community and enjoy the Centre’s unique infrastructure.”

Companies that participated in the football tournament, which took place at the Kora Dome, Wasl Club, include: DIFC Authority, Dubai Financial Services Authority, JP Morgan, Standard Chartered, EFG Hermes, Clifford Chance and Deloitte.
