Dubai International Financial Centre Authority Organises Iftar at Thalassemia Centre in Latifa Hospital

Dubai-UAE: 1 July, 2015 - Reinforcing its commitment to giving back to society, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority (DIFCA) hosted its iftar gathering with Thalassemia patients at the Latifa Hospital.

Attended by patients and their families, along with staff members of DIFC Authority, the initiative was put together as part of the financial hub’s on-going commitment to the community, as well as efforts to raise awareness on the condition.

In addition to hosting a line-up of interactive activities including entertainment by popular cartoon characters, DIFC also gave away special gifts to the young patients as a special Ramadan gesture. The session featured a short talk on thalassemia by Dr. Essam Duheir, Thalassemia Centre Outreach Coordinator at the Latifa Hospital that highlighted the consequences of living with the disorder and the importance of early detection.

Thalassemia is a blood disorder in which the body under produces hemoglobin. Patients with thalassemia have fewer circulating red blood cells than normal, which results in mild or severe anemia.
