8 February 2018 (Dubai, UAE): A record-breaking number of employees from Dubai’s biggest companies took on the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay held at Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), the official venue partner for this annual team-building race. 890 runners in teams of 10 from 89 companies raced their way around the unique one-mile (1.6km) route that went underneath the iconic Gate Building, but it was Elevision Media that won this year’s ’fastest firm in the city’ title with a time of 1:01:07

Eamon Sallam, Team Captain of Elevision Media said: “It feels great to be the fastest firm in the city. It’s a super well organised event at a great venue, with an awesome atmosphere. I am so grateful to my team and their commitment. It was a great effort from everyone.”

In second place was Gardaworld with a time of 1:01:21, followed by Emirates Steel with a time of 1:03:25. Mohamed Belal from Emirates Steel was the fastest runner on the night, running one mile in 5 minutes and 16 seconds - setting the bar high for the rest of the series. In the highly popular Mixed Team category, JLL beat 34 other teams to clinch the title in a time of 1:09:28.

David Strevens, Head of Sales for Middle East & Africa, Bloomberg L.P. said: “We would like to thank our partners, clients, sponsors and employees for their participation in this exciting race and making it yet another successful event. Congratulations to Elevision Media on coming in first tonight.”

Dubai kicked off the annual global race series, which now takes place in 11 cities worldwide, and has seen significant growth in popularity since it launched in the emirate in 2016 with an increasing amount of companies coming together for a night of camaraderie, networking and friendly rivalry.

Alya Al Zarouni, Executive Vice President – Operations, Dubai International Financial Centre Authority, said: “We joined the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay runners and celebrated team work and healthy competition among some of the largest corporations in Dubai. The increased interest seen this year demonstrates the enduring significance of the event. We’re delighted to see DIFC become a lifestyle destination for the region.”

Emirates Red Crescent, the official community partner, was presented with a cheque for 25,000 AED to support its charitable programs and projects in the humanitarian field. Following the race, all runners and their friends and family took the opportunity to network with colleagues and peers from all over Dubai in the race village, and at the lively after-party at Bazxar.

James Hassett, Managing Director of the event organiser Square Mile Sport, said: “Our aim is to provide an opportunity for employees to bond and network outside the meeting room and acquire new skills that they can take with them back to their working environment. We are delighted with the enthusiasm we’ve seen from our Dubai runners and with a 15% increase in runners compared with last year, the race continues to grow and we look forward to returning in 2019.”

In addition to Bloomberg, as the headline sponsor, and DIFC, as the venue partner, other partners included, Bloomberg Businessweek, Elevision Media, Dubai Eye 103.8, Bazxar, Bauerfeind and Fitness First. They were joined by official suppliers Four Seasons Hotel, DIFC, Arwa, Coca Cola, Pocari Sweat, and Crystal Gallery.

The event has been supported by Bloomberg since it launched in London in 2007. Currently in its 12th year, the Bloomberg Square Mile Relay has grown to include 11 international cities, creating the biggest global challenge of its kind.
