Work begins on Gate Precinct following award of major project
Press Release 02 Aug 2004 01:42 pmThe Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) today announced that it has awarded the contract to construct the Gate Precinct Buildings to a joint venture between ACT (Architectural Construction Team) and Peremba. The contract will lead to the development of 1.3 million square feet of both office and car parking space.
The Gate Precinct is the area that surrounds the Gate Building itself and has been designed to form an elegant backdrop to this landmark building. It will house leading financial institutions in the most modern environment, and will also provide open spaces, cafes and restaurants as well as a retail and commercial element.
The contract with ACT and Peremba is for the construction of buildings 1 and 2 of the Gate Precinct Buildings, which will comprise of 7-storey office buildings with 3 levels of basement car parking, as well as buildings 3 and 4 which will comprise of 8-storey office buildings also with 3 levels of basement car park.
The scale of the precinct buildings is designed to complement The Gate building. Each is half the height of The Gate itself and the distance between them is the same as the height of the gate. This critical design element effectively extends the visual impact of The Gate to the surrounding Precinct.
Designed to the highest international standards, the precinct buildings will provide a mix of uses. They will be interconnected by a glass air conditioned link that will allow easy access from building to building to the numerous cafes, restaurants and terraces around the landscaped plaza.
The Gate Precinct will be visually stunning. Glass will clad the majority of the exterior which will be contrasted with Granite and fabric shades at the lower levels. This will create a modern high tech façade which will be complemented internally with the use of marble, sandstone, granite and rich dark woods.
Naser Nabulsi CEO of DIFC said, “The already spectacular skyline of Dubai has been dramatically transformed by the iconic Gate building which will house, amongst others, The DIFC Authority, The DFSA and The DIFX (the DIFC’s Financial Exchange).
The surrounding Gate Precinct is a vital element of the overall development. Visually, it will augment the impact of the Gate but will also provide additional state of the art office space and associated car parking in the most modern environment.”
