Just in time for the Dubai World Insurance Congress, the second episode of DIFC Unplugged explores innovation in the US$4.5 trillion insurance industry that has grown exponentially over the last decade. With the emergence of InsurTech, we are witnessing a new openness towards the adoption of technology within a sector traditionally built on relationships.

Today, we are joined by Laurent Lemaire, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of elseco – the world’s largest space insurance underwriting agency, headquartered in the DIFC. Established in 2006 as a risk management and underwriting specialist for the space, energy and aviation sectors, the company now underwrites an estimated $120 million of premiums and is supported by nearly 70 top insurance companies, including Lloyd’s syndicates.

Laurent shares his views on the different aspects of the insurance markets from life to non-life insurance and B2C and B2B sectors, while highlighting new emerging insurance technologies, identifying what the industry is doing to catch up, and offering advice for budding startups and entrepreneurs looking to enter the marketplace.
